"Last night's cigarettes. . ."

"Last night's cigarettes. . ."  is a fourteen - track spoken word project casting reflections on life through the eyes of a working class émigré from the coal-dust covered Scranton, Pennsylvania region.

Once hailed as the Anthracite capital of the world, Scranton and its neighboring communities are a stark example of  tireless work ethic and blue-collar pride.

As with many areas built by coal and railroad, a strong back, calloused  hands, and a quick temper  are often the measure of the man – and the quality of a job is measured by  its endurance; if not by its hourly wage.

Recorded at Scranton's  SI Studios and backed by the evocative and versatile playing of local favorites Mighty Fine Wine, “Last night’s cigarettes. . .” stirs the dust and lets a little light settle on the things that often go unnoticed in a working class community: the people who live there, the choices they’ve made, and the effect those choices have on the conditions of their lives.

Like the area itself, the poetry may not be pretty; but it is unflinchingly direct and honest to the bone. . .

"Benjamin Jezierski envelops the listener with his smooth, grainy voice; drawing us deep into his lungs and slowly exhaling us. Sending us back into the air with our edges softened. He takes the unfair bitter qualities of life and shakes them until a sense of understanding falls out and we are left to dance softly along with the motion of easy steps. (He) releases us - makes us feel better through his admittance and appreciation of personal flaws. Through realizing the beauty and deceit of others that ties us all to the human experience. Last Night’s Cigarettes is an oral presentation of what my bones have been meagerly trying to eek out for years." - Danielle Cole

"Not your typical CD.  It is a collection of poetry by Ben Jezierski that he reads with musical accompaniment.  His style mimics that of Jim Morrison's American Prayer, very cool.  Overall, it is a great CD to listen to if you are in a mood to question and analyze life." 4 stars out of 5. - Dominique Hathaway, Origivation Magazine.
